The Division for Applied Social Psychology Research (DASPR) uses the perspective and methodology of Social Psychology in solving social issues such as terrorism and intergroup violence. In short, social psychology is a perspective used to understand how people in a society think, influence and relate to one another. Social psychology studies psychological factors that appear in society, which are then examined to find ways to correct people’s perception and behavior. In a society, psychological method and perspective can be used as tools to solve social problems. For instance, on issues of terrorism, social psychology approach is used to understand the thought and behavior of perpetrators of terror, as well as finding the mechanism to change and to modify their thought and behavior in order to support positive thought and behavior.

Testimonials

Division for Applied Social Psychology Research

“It was very beneficial for us especially for terrorism convicts or their families. As a result of DASPR activity, terrorism convicts and their families received more attention. Hopefully, DASPR activity with convicts, ex-convicts, and their family can continue so they don’t go back to the radical group.”

“DASPR had organized important deradicalization program in Indonesia. DASPR must spread the program result to the community. Congratulation for the launch of the website so that the program can benefit the community.”

“I’m grateful, lucky, and honored to become part of one of DASPR UI activities, which is visiting the family of terrorism convicts as part of research and social empowerment. In my opinion, the presence of DASPR in a community afflicted with increasingly complex psychosocial problems must be appreciated. Especially since DASPR has the courage to sincerely provide assistance to the ummahat, a name for the wives of terrorism convict, who are a group or a community that has been socially stigmatized. The presence of DASPR brings positive impact in increasing the quality of their relationship between the families and their community. Hopefully, DASPR will continue to exist in the community with other humanitarian/social programs.”

“Some time ago, the Search for Common Ground organization that I lead had a chance to collaborate with DASPR DAYA MAKARA to organize activities related to curriculum development, training of trainers and Conflict Management Training-Life Management Training (CMT-LMT) if several prisons. I found that the DASPR DAYA MAKARA staff are professional in their field and deserve to be the center of excellence in the development of applied psychology in Indonesia and even Asia. I really enjoy working with them because they are efficient and best results oriented. DASPR-DAYA MAKARA has a big opportunity to be the leading institution in Asia and even the world, especially in the field of rehabilitation of radicalized individuals.”
